Updating PHPMEM

When I first started this blog in 2012, adopting PHPMEM seemed like a reasonable thing to do — it was a PHP-based library which implemented the functionality I needed, and which seemed stable enough to not have required updates recently. Unfortunately, time has proven that the project was abandoned at that point, and has received no further updates in the intervening 10 years.

Now that Dreamhost is slowly prodding its users to upgrade to PHP 8.1, which introduces incompatible changes, I have had no choice but to take on the task of maintaining it myself (with the unacceptable alternative being breaking all equations in blogposts I've written over the last decade, if I were to migrate to a different markdown library).
